Byard’s vision

David Byard awaits me patiently at Moruya airport in his dusty four-wheel drive. The three-hour round trip from his home to collect me shows considerable commitment. At the same time, it’s nothing unusual for such a roving artist.

Byard’s clocked up more than a million kilometres of 4WD motoring in some of the remotest parts of Australia – or so the Ford people told him at his last trade-in. He’d stopped counting the kilometres long ago.

“Val and I measure travel in terms of the time it takes to get anywhere,” he explains as we bounce along a dirt road leading ever deeper into the forest-smothered mountains behind Bodalla on the New South Wales south coast. Contact me for complete article
